Departing words

Final thoughts on my holiday. FAQ

Did I enjoy my trip?

Yes, I did. At first I really enjoyed it. Then, as time went on and the moving hotels and every day out, the walking, eating different food, being alone, people everywhere began to wear on the nerves. I enjoyed my last couple of days in Osaka a lot less than my first days in Kyushu.

What was my favourite place?

It’s tie between Fukuoka Castle Ruins Park and Kurokawa Onsen’s Ryokan (tradtional hotel), but I’d have to go with Number 1 Nanzoin temple. It was just so pretty in the rain and the unexpected scenery just made it special.

What was my least favourite place?

Osaka, easily. The city, the big smoke, the people and more people and just so many people.

What did I enjoy eating the most?

I wasn’t as adventurous as I had planned, with my food. But it was hard to beat the 12 course meal at Shinmeikan, Kurokawa. I also enjoyed my meal at Coco Curry though.

What was the least favourite food?

Obviously, it was Jigokumushi. Hell steamed food. That and the Hell water. I kept burping sulphur until the next day.

If I came back, what would I do next?

Would probably take a break for a couple of years but would probably go to the northern prefectures of the main island, possibly in autumn, but certainly not in spring.

Do you speak Japanese?

Still no, and I have no intention of learning. The thing with Japan is you don’t need to speak Japanese to get by and once you’re used to the routine of the train, of restaurants, of the tourist things, then you can get by with words and nodding and pointing.
